Elizabeth and aunt visit the Shanghai Arts and Crafts Museum March 6, 2011

Today was the perfect day to visit a museum as it was rainy and foggy. We headed off to the Shanghai Arts and Crafts Museum, built in 1905 to house the director of the Chamber of Commerce of the French Concession.

You caught me.
I obviously didn't take this photo,
but I wanted you to see how lovely this building is.

Inside was equally elegant
with high ceilings and parquet flooring.

Blair checking out a display case.
The "painting" behind her is actually needlepoint.

A dragon crafted from various precious metals

An especially stunning carved ivory piece

 A craftswoman? Craftsperson? Crafter?
At any rate, she was making lanterns.

That's the thing I love about this museum. You can watch the items being made and then purchase them if you like. You know that what you buy is a genuine handicraft. Blair liked that part as well.
